Experience behind the performances

I’m Stephen Dexter, RPT, Senior Piano Technician at Northern Arizona University’s Kitt School of Music, an All-Steinway School.

My concert work includes piano preparation for the Flagstaff Piano Festival, Sedona Symphony, and Chamber Music Sedona. Guest pianists across these programs have included gold, silver, and bronze medalists of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, first-prize winners of the Leeds and Hamamatsu international piano competitions, and a Grammy Award winner.

I also service pianos for the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, Piano on the Rocks, Grand Canyon Music Festival, and other concert venues throughout Northern Arizona. Steinway calls on me to tune for its Northern Arizona concerts.

That experience informs the care I bring to every instrument, on stage and at home—with straightforward advice about its condition, what it needs, and what the work will cost.

Why verified qualifications matter

The RPT credential is earned through three Piano Technicians Guild examinations covering piano knowledge, tuning, and practical technical skills. My work combines that independent assessment with a rebuilding-shop apprenticeship and concert preparation informed by professional pianists.
